Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Underwriter to join our growing team. This role is responsible for reviewing and verifying tenant applications as they progress through our onboarding process. The Underwriter ensures that every applicant meets our established credit box criteria and that landlords are fully protected against financial risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and assess rental applications for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility.

  • Conduct Openroom tribunal checks (tenant/landlord tribunal history) to identify potential red flags.

  • Verify applicants’ income-to-rent ratio and evaluate against our underwriting guidelines.

  • Apply Rental Deposits Now’s credit box rules consistently to ensure fair and accurate decisions.

  • Flag discrepancies, high-risk applications, or incomplete information for further investigation.

  • Collaborate with internal teams to streamline the tenant approval process and maintain service-level standards.

  • Maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions and rationales for audit and compliance purposes.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of underwriting guidelines, risk assessment tools, and workflows.

Qualifications
  • Experience in underwriting, credit assessment, financial services, or rental housing preferred.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.

  • Familiarity with tenant screening, income verification, and tribunal/court record checks an asset.

  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

  • Proficient in using digital tools, CRM systems, or underwriting platforms.
