Position Summary


This position is primarily responsible for completing and / or assisting with complex customs compliance processes in a timely and cost-effective manner. This may include providing consulting and advisory services to clients regarding HS classification, origin/FTA determination, valuation, filing adjustments, blanket corrections, appeals, AMPS, C-TPAT/PIP, duty drawbacks, etc. and other customs related duties as assigned. The incumbent may also assist with maintaining internal databases, with audits, and with a variety of compliance related duties, as assigned.

  • Provide technical advisory services and document preparation for clients, which includes, but is not limited to the following: HS classification, FTA analysis, valuation assessments, commodity tax analysis, duty deferral, duty drawbacks, Customs verifications and audit assistance, blanket amends / refunds, Customs rulings, etc.
  • Provide assistance to Senior Trade Compliance Specialists in various tasks relating to Consulting projects.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects concurrently, and meet client/government deadlines.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with client by responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and internal clients while working collaboratively on projects, responding to inquiries, etc. Provide technical guidance to colleagues.

Education and Experience


  • Completion of High School or Equivalent
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation (must maintain)
  • US Certified Customs Specialist (asset)
  • CBSA Professional status (asset)
  • 3 – 5 years of proven customs industry-related experience, including a minimum of 2 years classification experience
  • Consulting experience (preferred)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in order to present complex information to a variety of contacts both internally and externally.
  • Excellent knowledge of tariff, legal notes, free trade agreements, regulations, valuation, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Excellent research, problem-solving, judgement and analytical skills with a high attention to detail in order to research and review complex information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Proficient in MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, etc.) and standard computer applications in order to prepare professional deliverables and communications.

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast paced, high activity, and deadline bound environment.
  • Concentration is required in balancing several tasks at one time.
  • May be required to sit at desk for prolonged periods of time.
  • May be required to view computer screen or printed materials for extended periods of time.
  • Travel is generally not required, other to attend meetings at client offices from time to time
