NOTE: This position is geared to a college program
domestic student recruitment role and is NOT related to human resources
recruitment.

 Duties and Responsibilities: 

Reporting to
the Director, Marketing and Student Recruitment, the Student Recruitment
Specialist is responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery, and
continuous improvement of Durham College's on-campus domestic student
recruitment activities. The role contributes directly to achieving domestic
institutional application and enrolment targets by creating a consistent,
engaging, and data-informed on-campus recruitment experience for prospective
students and key influencers.
The incumbent
designs and executes a comprehensive on-campus student recruitment program that
attracts prospective students across multiple audiences, including direct from
high school, mature learners and dual credit. This includes representing Durham
College in a wide range of on-campus and outreach activities, such as high
school and educator visits, large-and small-scale experience events,
presentations to prospective students and parents, and support for off-campus
recruitment initiatives, including community events and career fairs.
The role is
accountable for contributing to the college's major recruitment initiatives,
including, but not limited to, Open Houses, Program Information Nights,
on-campus tours, and information webinars. This includes planning logistics,
coordinating internal partners, ensuring consistent messaging and brand
alignment, and delivering a high-quality experience that reflects our values
and priorities.
The Student
Recruitment Specialist is to actively track, analyze, and report on recruitment
activity outcomes, using data and feedback to assess effectiveness, identify
opportunities for improvement, and inform future planning. Maintaining accurate
records, meeting established targets, and contributing to continuous
improvement are core expectations of the role.

Through strong
collaboration, proactive communication, and accountability for results, the
Student Recruitment Specialist plays a key role in advancing domestic student
recruitment goals by
generating a strong applicant pool for full-time programs.

1. Student Recruitment:

  • Develop, implement and continuously evaluate recruitment programs, strategies and initiatives to promote Durham College as the college of choice and support domestic institutional application and enrolment goals.
  • Contribute to the coordination and execution of annual on-campus recruiting activities including Open Houses, two Program Information Nights, a Mature Student event and more than 200 on-campus group high school visits (e.g. SHSM and dual credit), ensuring consistent and engaging experiences.
  • Support off-campus recruitment activities during peak periods, including College Information Program (CIP), high school visits, career fairs, community events, etc., including making all travel arrangements within Ontario for rental vehicles, insurance, and accommodations.
  • Coordinate and deliver recruitment activities to connect with target audiences through virtual platforms, including hosting and reporting that will inform future planning and continuous improvement of our information webinar series.
  • Develop and implement digital and social media recruitment marketing strategies to reach target markets, ensuring brand alignment and work with colleagues to implement the annual plan on social media platforms to support enrolment goals.
  • Contribute to the creation, maintenance and regular updates for web content as it relates to the student recruitment function.
  • Provide accurate, comprehensive, and audience appropriate program and service specific information to a diverse range of target audiences.
  • Research, establish strong relationships and coordinate on-campus activities with key partners and influencers in high schools (guidance counsellors, teachers, principals, boards of education) and agencies (employment counsellors, welcome centres) to understand current and emerging trends, and maintain Durham Colleges' positive community presence.
  • Respond in a timely and professional manner to prospective student and stakeholder inquires across multiple channels, including in person and via email, telephone, virtual appointment or live chat.
  • Plan, oversee and evaluate the on-campus tour strategy. Oversight of scheduling student campus tour guides, including work study students, promotion of and reporting on success of the program to measure effectiveness.
  • Oversee and contribute to the @futurestudents Instagram account, ensuring delivery of engaging and appropriate content that resonates with prospective students.
  • Contribute to the development and distribution of promotional materials (e.g. viewbooks, newsletters, social media, targeted e-communication pieces) to prospective students and community partners.
  • Represent the college or region/province on various committees and at functions to establish collaborative working relationships to inform and advance recruitment objectives.
  • 2. Analysis and Data Collection:

  • Contribute to planning and execution of student recruitment initiatives through an understanding of the recruitment sales funnel, prospective student data and lead generation, that may influence the development of recruitment plans such as direct mail, targeted email or SMS communications, electronic publications and newsletters.
  • Research, review and evaluate reports (e.g. Ontario College Application market share report, CRM database, internal research and data) to assess and identify opportunities and recommended recruitment strategies geared to targeted secondary schools and community groups for on-campus activities.
  • Analyze the requirements of a range of prospective student audiences and develop and conduct presentations tailored to meet their needs and promote full-time programs.
  • Maintain up-to-date program knowledge by liaising with Deans, Associate Deans, Program Coordinators, Administrative Coordinators, Student Advisors and faculty through participation in program and advisory meetings as required.
  • Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a three-year diploma or degree is required in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, Event Management, Business Administration or Employment Counselling.
  • A valid G Driver's license and the ability to independently travel to recruitment activities will be required. Please note that some travel distances may require overnight accommodations.
  • Minimum of three years of recent and relevant work experience in a post-secondary recruitment, student advising/counselling or in event planning, marketing, public relations, sales environment, with a focus on deadline-oriented multi-tasking experience and event management.
  • Excellent oral and public speaking skills and superior writing ability.
  • Communicate effectively through a variety of mediums, email, Teams, phone and other platforms.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate, develop rapport and form positive customer sales relationships with a wide variety of potential prospects and their families in culturally diverse environments.
  • A positive approach to customer service excellence, sales and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work independently, to establish and meet priorities and exercise good judgement.
  • An understanding of the provincial education system, current issues and related trends at the provincial and ministry level and boards of education as required.
  • An understanding of career, labour market, economic and social trends.
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management systems (CRM), Salesforce is an asset.
  • Excellent organization, problem-solving, and project and event management skills.
  • Proficiency in using the Microsoft Office suite and email applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Approaches tasks and interactions with colleagues and customers with a positive and creative attitude.
