We are currently seeking an experienced Site Superintendent I tojoin our Team.
Position Summary:
The Site Superintendent I (SS-I) is a full time, core site leadership role within Coldboxs Project Delivery organization, responsible for the safe, organized, and predictable execution of assigned scopes or smaller design-build projects.
The SS-I leads field execution on Coldbox design-build projects, coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality standards, planning and sequencing work, and maintaining site discipline. On larger or more complex projects, the SS-I typically owns defined scopes, work zones, or phases under the guidance of a General Site Superintendent (GSS) or lead project Site Superintendent. On smaller retrofit, alteration, or box-in-box projects, the SS-I may be assigned as the primary site lead, operating independently day-to-day with GSS oversight.
The role carries direct accountability for site safety performance, schedule adherence within assigned scopes, quality of work in place, inspection readiness, and site organization. While commercial decisions, staffing strategy, and contractual matters remain with the Project Manager and GSS, the SS-I is expected to exercise strong execution judgment and resolve routine site issues independently.
Success in the SS-I role is measured by safety outcomes, reliability of execution, quality of work, inspection performance, and leadership effectiveness. This role prepares individuals for progression to Site Superintendent II through demonstrated consistency, judgment, and leadership under increasing complexity.
The SS-I shall meet the following operating standards:
Outcome Ownership at the Site Level
SS-I is accountable for safe, high-quality, on-schedule execution of assigned scopes or projects, not just activity completion.
Safety Leadership Without Compromise
SS-I actively leads site safety, enforces Coldbox standards, and takes ownership of hazard identification, corrective action, and incident response.
Planned Execution and Discipline
Daily work planning, sequencing, and look-ahead scheduling are intentional and structured, minimizing reactive site management.
Independent Judgment
With Escalation Discipline SS-I resolves routine site issues independently and escalates higher-risk, commercial, or systemic matters early with clear context.
Professional Authority on Site
SS-I leads subcontractors, inspectors, and site staff with calm, firm, and professional authority, reinforcing Coldboxs reputation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day site execution for assigned scopes, phases, or smaller design-build projects, coordinating subcontractors, site logistics, access, sequencing, and daily work plans to ensure safe, organized, and predictable operations.
- Serve as the primary site lead on assigned retrofit, alteration, or box-in-box projects where applicable, operating independently day-to-day under General Site Superintendent (GSS) oversight.
- Enforce Coldbox health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards at all times, including leading toolbox talks, conducting weekly safety inspections, enforcing site rules, and intervening immediately in unsafe conditions.
- Develop, maintain, and execute daily work plans and rolling 3 week+ look-ahead schedules, coordinating trade sequencing to avoid stacking, rework, and productivity loss.
- Identify, manage, and resolve routine site constraints related to manpower, materials, access, inspections, and sequencing, escalating higher-risk issues with facts, impacts, and recommended actions.
- Direct and coordinate subcontractor activities on site, holding trades accountable for safety, quality, productivity, and professional conduct.
- Own quality control for assigned scopes, ensuring work is installed in accordance with IFC drawings, specifications, and Coldbox standards, and that deficiencies are identified, tracked, and closed.
- Prepare sites for inspections by consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, and client representatives, ensuring readiness, documentation availability, and follow-up on outcomes.
- Maintain complete and accurate site documentation, including daily logs, manpower tracking, weather logs, photos, inspection records, safety documentation, and deficiency logs in Procore and SiteDocs.
- Lead site coordination related to RFIs, site instructions, and design clarifications by identifying issues early and communicating clearly with the Project Manager, GSS, and design team.
- Coordinate material deliveries, hoisting, laydown, temporary services, and site access to align with schedule and safety requirements.
- Communicate daily site progress, risks, constraints, and accomplishments clearly to the Project Manager, GSS, and project team.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organization, and site logistics to support safety, efficiency, and professionalism.
- Support site closeout activities, including deficiency resolution, permit and SPA closeout, inspections, and turnover documentation.
- Mentor and support Assistant Site Superintendents or junior field staff, reinforcing Coldbox standards, safety culture, and execution discipline.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring site issues, inefficiencies, or coordination
- breakdowns and sharing lessons learned with leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology, or a related field; an equivalent combination of relevant trade background and progressive site experience will be considered.
- 47 years of progressive construction experience, including at least 23 years in a site leadership capacity (e.g., foreperson, lead hand, Assistant Site Superintendent) on commercial, industrial, or design-build projects.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple trades, managing short-interval schedules, supporting inspections, and driving deficiency resolution and project close-out activities on active job sites.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and basic contract documents, with the judgment to identify constructability, sequencing, or coordination issues and escalate appropriately.
- Solid understanding of standard construction methods, sequencing, building codes, and inspection processes applicable to ICI or industrial projects.
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and quality, including active enforcement of site safety standards and participation in incident prevention and corrective action processes; valid jurisdictional safety certifications (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid/CPR) required.
- Effective leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills, enabling clear direction of subcontractors and professional interaction with inspectors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Working proficiency with digital field tools for daily reporting, documentation, and communication (e.g., Procore, SiteDocs, email, schedules), with comfort adopting new systems and workflows.
- Valid drivers license and ability to work full-time on site, including occasional evenings or weekends as project conditions require.
