Retired Marine Surveyor

Job Description

We are seeking a Retired marine surveyor - Freelancer based in Metro Vancouver, Canada, to perform periodical port inspections. The role involves performing visual holds inspections, watertightness tests for holds (hose test), Draft Survey, sealing of holds, witnessing and documenting loading processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and detailed reporting. This is a field role, ideal for professionals with maritime inspection experience looking for combining their free time with periodical port inspections.

Location: Vancouver, BC<br><br>Working schedule: Flexible shifts on-call: Day-shifts or Night-shifts, depending on the Terminal's working schedule and the inspector's availability

Key Responsibilities/ Scope of Works:<ul><li>Visual Vessel Holds Inspection before loading</li><li>Hose Test - watertightness test for holds</li><li>Witness and document vessel loading operations</li><li>Draft Survey (Initial/ Final/ Intermediate) of the vessel</li><li>Seal vessel holds upon completion of loading</li><li>Maintain detailed, hourly records of all operations using provided templates</li><li>Provide real-time updates via WhatsApp reporting group</li><li>Take Photos and Videos of the loading operations</li><li>Prepare detailed inspection reports using provided templates</li></ul>

Qualifications & Requirements:<ul><li>Prior experience in marine cargo inspections and port operations</li><li>Experience conducting Draft Surveys </li><li>Familiarity with cargo hold inspections and sealing procedures </li><li>Knowledge of weighing, sampling, and vessel loading procedures </li><li>Car and a Valid BC driving licence</li><li>Legal authorization to work in Canada</li><li>Strong attention to detail and ability to document findings precisely</li><li>Ability to work independently in port environments</li><li>Good communication skills and access to a smartphone for real-time reporting</li><li>Availability for on-call assignments based on port schedule</li></ul>About Cotecna Canada Inc.:<br><p>Cotecna is a leading provider of testing, inspection and certification services.
