Join the team at Malahat SkyWalk, where breathtaking views meet exceptional guest experiences!</p><p><strong>Position Overview</strong></p><p>We are seeking a detail-oriented Retail Manager to oversee the daily operations of our on-site gift store at the Malahat SkyWalk, a leading outdoor attraction and tourist destination on Vancouver Island. This is a hands-on role that combines retail leadership with operational management, including buying, reorders, vendor setup, and inventory control.</p><p>The Retail Manager directly supervises a small, dynamic team of 2–4 retail associates (depending on the season) and the Retail Operations Lead, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and exceptional guest experience.</p><p>Up to 50% of the hours for this position will include crossover with guest-facing retail operations as needed to support on-site performance and engagement. This role will include weekend shifts. </p><p>This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating memorable guest experiences in a beautiful, nature-based setting while maintaining a high standard of retail excellence.</p><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities </strong>(include, but are not limited to) </p><p>In this role: </p><p><strong>Leadership & Team Management</strong></p><ul><li>Lead, coach, and support the Retail Operations Lead and a small team of 2–4 retail associates.</li><li>Ensure scheduling, staffing, and daily coverage needs are met.</li><li>Provide clear communication of goals, priorities, and updates from senior leadership.</li><li>Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of retail staff.</li></ul><p><strong>Buying, Vendor, & Inventory Management</strong></p><ul><li>Work closely with the Director of Retail to develop detailed seasonal buy plans.</li><li>Oversee ongoing purchasing, reorders, and product flow to maintain healthy inventory levels.</li><li>Build and manage vendor relationships, including vendor creation and setup in systems.</li><li>SKU/vendor setup and maintain updated inventory.</li><li>Track and reconcile purchase orders, invoices, and inventory discrepancies.</li><li>Ensure monthly stock counts and transfers are completed accurately.</li><li>Work with suppliers and operations to resolve product, shipping, or stock issues.</li></ul><p><strong>Retail Operations Oversight</strong></p><ul><li>Oversee day-to-day store operations through the Retail Operations Lead.</li><li>Ensure merchandising, signage, and pricing are consistent with brand and promotional guidelines.</li><li>Manage POS system accuracy and escalate technical issues as needed.</li><li>Ensure compliance with cash handling, safety, and security protocols.</li></ul><p><strong>Sales & Performance Management</strong></p><ul><li>Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance against goals.</li><li>Identify sales gaps and implement initiatives to improve results.</li><li>Share sales insights, top-performing products, and guest trends with leadership and marketing teams.</li><li>Prepare and submit regular sales and operations reports.</li></ul><p><strong>Cross-Functional Collaboration</strong></p><ul><li>Work with marketing to plan and execute in-store promotions and campaigns.</li><li>Partner with operations and facilities for signage updates, maintenance, and store upkeep.</li><li>Share guest feedback and retail insights to inform product and brand strategies.</li><li>Support other Malahat SkyWalk departments as needed to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences; </li><li>Other duties as assigned</li></ul><p><strong>Required Experience, Abilities and Qualifications</strong> To excel in this role, you should demonstrate:</p><ul><li>4–6 years of progressive retail management experience.</li><li>Strong experience in purchasing, inventory management, and vendor relations.</li><li>Proven leadership skills with experience managing supervisors and frontline teams.</li><li>Strong analytical and reporting skills with attention to detail.</li><li>Proficiency with POS and inventory systems.</li><li>Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.</li><li>Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a friendly professional attitude</li><li>Capacity to safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds</li></ul><p><strong>Asset Qualifications</strong></p><p>The following qualifications are not mandatory; however, they are preferred and will be considered assets:</p><ul><li>Proficiency in a second language.</li><li>BC FOODSAFE Level 1 and BC Serving It Right certifications</li><li>Basic First Aid (OFA Level 1)</li></ul><p><strong>Work Conditions</strong></p><ul><li>This position requires flexibility to accommodate the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.</li><li>Cross-training in other departments will be required to support the overall guest experience at Malahat SkyWalk.
