Human Resources Specialist

Northern Transformer Corporation is a Canadian-based, fast growing manufacturer of power transformers for the Utility, Renewable Energy and Diversified markets enabling a clean electricity-based future. Our team delivers transformers of the highest quality through proven design, quality workmanship, and rapid response to our clients’ unique needs.

We have an opening for a Human Resources Specialist. The HR Specialist is a key member of our team elevating the performance of company by supporting the culture, performance, recruitment and retention of the team. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have relevant working experience, strong inter-personal skills, model the culture and values of the company and be a certified HR professional.

Major Areas of Responsibility

· Recruiting new team members – production, technical and support

o Advertising positions, reviewing applicants, interviews, counselling managers

o Working with colleges to build recruitment presence on campus

o Onboarding new employees

· Performance of team

o Ensure team is engaged with company culture and values

o Maintain job definitions & requirements

o Maintain compensation plan including benchmarking

o Support managers in employee performance monitoring and development plans

o Maintain training records and support managers to implement training plans

o Monitor team morale, retention, and conduct exit interviews

o Dealing with grievances, disputes and complaints

o Monitor and report performance with respect to diversity & inclusion

o Deliver internal employee communications and support company employee events

· Administration

o Maintain HR policies and records in compliance with labour standards and laws and the company’s policies, contracts and quality system

o Perform payroll and benefits related to routine tasks

o Maintain and update HRIS system using DayForce

o You’ll manage the end-to-end process for Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA) and Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) applications, ensuring compliance while providing a smooth, supportive experience for candidates and hiring managers. Manage the full cycle of LMIA applications, including advertising requirements, documentation preparation, and submission to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).

o Coordinate and prepare OINP applications, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to program guidelines.

o Advise hiring managers on immigration pathways, timelines, and compliance requirements.

o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Canadian immigration laws, policies, and program changes, particularly LMIA and OINP streams.

o Liaise with legal counsel, and candidates to resolve application queries or issues.

o Develop and maintain immigration process documentation, templates, and checklists for internal use.

o Track and report on immigration case statuses, deadlines, and renewals to ensure compliance.

Requirements

o Ideal candidate has Certified HR professional accreditation and 5 years’ experience performing HR responsibilities as listed above

o Experienced at recruiting production and technical employees using all available tools and methods

o Familiar with labour laws and employment standards in Ontario

o Familiar with union HR processes and collective bargaining

o 3+ years of HR experience with a strong focus on Canadian immigration processes.

o Proven hands-on experience managing LMIA applications and OINP submissions.

o Solid understanding of ESDC requirements, IRCC processes, and provincial nominee programs.

o Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail accuracy is critical in this role.

o Strong communication skills to explain complex immigration processes in a clear, empathetic way. Fluent in English written and spoken.

o Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.

o Proficiency with MS Office

o Professional conduct, positive attitude and energetic personality represents company culture to employees and externally

o Excel at managing a diverse employee base

o Able to learn and use HRIS/ IT systems for records maintenance. updating and reporting. Working knowledge of DayForce is an asset but not necessary

o Can-do flexible attitude and willingness to support a growing company’s varied needs.
