Job Description

A growing automation solutions provider based in Ontario, providing reliable automation systems to clients across the manufacturing, food & beverage, automotive, and advanced manufacturing sectors is looking to add to their Project Team. The current team combines engineering expertise with hands-on implementation to help clients improve efficiency, productivity, and safety. They are looking to expand and add an experienced and motivated Project Manager to lead projects from concept through commissioning.



Position Overview


The Project Manager will be responsible for managing automation projects of varying scope and complexity, from initial client engagement through to design, integration, testing, and delivery. This role requires both technical knowledge of automation systems and strong project management skills. You will work closely with clients, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure successful project outcomes—on time, on budget, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities:


Project Management


  • Plan, organize, and manage automation projects from proposal stage through to delivery and commissioning.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Define project scope, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with clients and internal teams.
  • Monitor project progress, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Manage change requests and ensure proper documentation and client approvals.


Client & Stakeholder Management


  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing regular updates and managing expectations.
  • Facilitate project kick-off meetings, progress reviews, and closeout sessions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to encourage repeat business and referrals.


Technical Oversight


  • Work with engineering teams (controls, electrical, mechanical, software) to ensure designs meet project requirements.
  • Provide input on system architecture, automation hardware, and control strategies.
  • Review technical documentation such as P&IDs, electrical schematics, and functional design specifications.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of automation systems.


Team Leadership & Collaboration


  • Coordinate cross-functional project teams, including engineers, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Assign tasks, monitor workloads, and provide guidance to ensure quality deliverables.
  • Promote a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and accountability.


Financial Management


  • Track project costs, margins, and profitability.
  • Prepare progress billings, invoices, and financial forecasts.
  • Ensure projects are delivered within approved budgets.



Qualifications

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field) or equivalent technical background.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management within industrial automation, robotics, or systems integration.
  • PMP certification is an asset.
  • Hands-on technical experience with PLCs, HMIs, robotics, motion control, or related automation technologies is a strong advantage.


Skills & Competencies


  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation equipment, controls, and integration processes.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think both strategically and tactically.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, or similar).
  • Knowledge of health & safety regulations and standards (OHSA, CSA, NFPA).
